About Inkster
Inkster is the farthest east we go on Michigan Avenue, about twenty-eight minutes from the shop through Canton, Wayne and Westland. It is a small city with a big history. Henry Ford built housing here in the 1920s and 30s for Black workers at the Rouge plant who were barred from buying in Dearborn, and the city that grew up around Inkster Road and Michigan Avenue became one of the most important Black communities in the Detroit suburbs. The Carver Homes and the neighborhoods north of Michigan Avenue date from that era and the wartime years after it. The city is bisected by the Lower Rouge, with Inkster Park and the river trail running through the middle. Housing is modest, mostly frame and brick ranches and bungalows from the 1940s through 1960s, with long-time homeowners, extended families and a growing share of investor-owned rentals. Inkster has been through hard decades, including the state takeover of its schools, but the neighborhoods are stable and the people who call us tend to be homeowners who have been in the same house for a long time and want it kept running.
What Inkster houses need from an HVAC company
Inkster's housing is older and smaller than most of the Wayne County cities we serve, and a lot of the mechanical systems have been nursed along for decades. The 1920s and 30s Ford-era houses near Inkster Road are frame bungalows on Michigan basements or crawlspaces, often with ductwork added in the 50s or 60s when coal and oil furnaces were replaced. The 1940s and 50s ranches that make up most of the city have block basements or crawlspaces, single-return furnaces, and trunk lines that were sized for a furnace half the output of what is in there now. Central air exists on maybe half the houses and is almost always an add-on, with a condenser on a block in the side yard and a circuit pulled off a full 100-amp panel. We see a lot of furnaces with cracked heat exchangers in this city because the equipment has been run so long, and carbon monoxide safety is a real part of every call.
Weather and the equipment it tests
Inkster is low and flat along the Lower Rouge, and the river floods the park and the adjacent blocks in a wet spring. Basements near Inkster Park and along John Daly Road stay damp through June, and we find a lot of rusted-out furnace bottoms and water heater tanks because of it. The city is fully built out and surrounded by Dearborn Heights and Westland, so it holds summer heat like the rest of the inner suburbs, with humid afternoons and little wind relief.
Local details we plan around
- Inkster's building department requires permits for furnace, AC and water heater replacements, and we handle the paperwork so homeowners do not have to.
- Carbon monoxide risk from cracked heat exchangers in 25-to-40-year-old furnaces is higher here than almost anywhere else we work, and we test for it on every heating call.
- Flood-prone basements along the Rouge mean a lot of equipment sits on a floor that has been wet more than once, and we recommend raising replacements on blocks.
- Many houses still have 60-amp or 100-amp panels with fuses or early breakers, which is the first hurdle for adding central air.
- Landlord repairs and pre-purchase inspections for investors are a regular part of our Inkster work.
- Inkster water is Detroit-system supply, soft enough that age, not sediment, is what kills water heaters here.

Reviews from across our service area
★★★★★Al and his team are great. Our furnace stopped working on New Year's Eve. I called 10 HVAC shops and no one would come out except Al. He helped determine our problem and within a week I had a new furnace that was covered by my home insurance. I had a few problems post-install and the Temprasure team came over immediately on the weekend to fix it. Great company. Highly recommend!!
★★★★★They replaced my water heater and the coil for my central air. The price quoted is what I paid. They were on time and also kept me informed by text. I will most definitely use them again. Yes, I recommend them.
★★★★★My elderly non-English-speaking parents needed their water heater replaced and Temprasure did not leave until they made sure my parents were satisfied and happy to have hot water once again. They were very patient with them and did not abandon them even though I know sometimes it's hard to deal with my non-speaking parents. They checked back with us a few days later to make sure everything was still working good. I definitely would recommend this company.
