About York Township

York Township lies south of Pittsfield and Saline and north of Milan, and we get there in about twenty minutes by taking Carpenter Road or Whittaker Road south from the shop, or US-23 to the Willis Road exit. It is one of the more rural townships in the county, with two hamlets that most people have driven through without noticing: Mooreville, at the junction of Mooreville and Saline-Milan Roads, and Stony Creek, where a cluster of 1800s houses marks an old mill site. The rest is corn and soybean fields, woodlots, and a mix of farmsteads and newer houses on parcels that were split off when a farm sold. US-23 runs north-south through the township's eastern side, and the land near the Willis Road and Milan interchanges has seen subdivisions and a few larger developments in the past twenty years. York's residents are a blend of long-established farming families, Saline and Milan school parents who wanted acreage, and commuters who work in Ann Arbor or Toledo and prefer a quiet road. The township has worked to keep farmland preserved, so growth has stayed concentrated along the highway.

What York Township houses need from an HVAC company

Out here we work on more crawlspaces and slab-on-grade houses than almost anywhere else in our radius. The 1970s–80s ranches that dot Platt, Moon and Judd Roads often sit on a crawlspace with the furnace in a utility room or a hallway closet and a duct trunk running underneath, so cold floors and mouse-damaged flex are frequent complaints. Farmhouses at Mooreville and Stony Creek are 1850s–1910s frame two-stories with Michigan basements, retrofitted forced air and gas or propane lines that were extended over the decades. The 1990s–2000s acreage homes and the subdivisions near US-23 are colonials and ranches on full basements with builder-grade 80 percent furnaces, many of them propane, and air conditioners that were installed when R-22 was still standard. Manufactured homes with package units or small downflow furnaces appear on a number of parcels along Carpenter and Willis Roads. Barns and workshops with their own heaters are part of many properties.

Weather and the equipment it tests

York Township is flat enough that wind is the defining factor in winter: there is little to stop a northwest gale between here and the next county, and the exposed side of an acreage house will always be the cold one. The Saline River and its tributaries create low, wet ground in the township's center, with high water tables and spring basement seepage near Stony Creek. Summer heat is open-field heat with few mature trees to shade a roof.

Local details we plan around

  • DTE gas mains follow a handful of corridors near Saline and Milan, and the majority of parcels between them are on propane, so the fuel type is the first thing we confirm.
  • Almost every home in York Township is on a private well with hard, iron-rich water, and water heaters here need flushing more often than in the cities on softened municipal supply.
  • Septic systems serve the whole township, and we route high-efficiency furnace condensate so it does not drain into the septic line.
  • Mechanical permits go through Washtenaw County's building department, and the county inspector covers a wide area, so scheduling an inspection can take a few extra days.
  • Rural power lines along the wooded roads go down in ice storms, and generator-ready furnace wiring is a common request.
  • Crawlspace furnaces and ductwork on the 1970s ranches are a regular source of mouse damage, rusted trunks and disconnected flex runs.

Al was great! I had no A/C on the hottest day of the year and I was able to diagnose it to a failed capacitor. I was calling for the part and no one had stock. I spoke with Al and he was able to help me within an hour — came out, installed and rolling same day. Al is a great guy, highly recommend.

On June 24 around 3:00 p.m., our A/C stopped working. I called several A/C repair companies and they all told me that it would take from several days to a few weeks to come out. Then I ran across Temprasure. I spoke to Al, and he came out the same day and diagnosed my 26-year-old A/C unit. The bad news is that it could not be repaired. The good news is that I purchased a new A/C unit and his team installed the new unit with no issues. Everything Al said about the installation experience actually occurred as he stated, from the delivery date of the unit to the time it took to install it. Not to mention the prices were more than reasonable.

Al and his team are great. Our furnace stopped working on New Year's Eve. I called 10 HVAC shops and no one would come out except Al. He helped determine our problem and within a week I had a new furnace that was covered by my home insurance. I had a few problems post-install and the Temprasure team came over immediately on the weekend to fix it. Great company. Highly recommend!!

Usually the same day, often within a few hours. We are open 24 hours and prioritize homes with no heat in winter and no cooling in summer. Tell us when you call if there are infants, elderly family members or medical needs in the house and we move you up the list.

What gas and electric utilities serve York Township?

DTE Energy in town, propane on many rural roads for natural gas and DTE Energy for electric. That matters for rebates on high-efficiency furnaces, heat pumps and smart thermostats, which we can walk you through when you are replacing equipment.

What kind of homes do you work on in York Township?

Mostly the 1970s–2000s rural ranches and acreage homes with a few 19th-century farmhouses, along with everything older and newer.

Do you handle rentals and new-home inspections in York Township?

Yes. We coordinate with tenants and send findings to the owner, and we do pre-purchase HVAC inspections for buyers inside the inspection contingency window, with a written report you can use to negotiate.
